Welcome To
ROOT TRAUMA & ANXIETY THERAPY
At ROOT, we’re dedicated to helping you regain your momentum and zest for life. Our unique approach combines EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) with solution-focused brief therapy, allowing us to quickly address the core issues you’re facing and set you on a positive path forward.
AT ROOT,
we engage in a conversation that quickly uncovers the root cause of your distress. After addressing those issues, we focus on envisioning how you want your future to be, steering clear of negative self-talk.
Using solution-focused brief therapy, we establish a clear vision for your preferred future. We then incorporate hypnotherapy to embed this positive outcome into your subconscious. Remarkably, much of this can be accomplished in very few sessions. Let ROOT therapy help you thrive again.
Typical Session Structure
Each session is structured as follows:
20 minutes:
Chat and consultation

30 minutes:
ROOT therapy and solution-focused work

30 minutes:
Trance and Reset

whilst the above timings are an outline, the time spent in each process will be tailored to your specific needs. I believe a 80 minute session is much more effective, allowing both client and therapist the time needed to get to the bottom of things.
HOW WE WORK TOGETHER
At our clinic, we understand that every client is unique, which is why we tailor our treatments to meet individual needs. However, the underlying science of the brain remains consistent for everyone. Our brains learn from experiences or events and we can interpret these as both positive and negative experiences, influencing how we respond to present and future events. Over time, this process can become maladaptive, with the primitive part of the brain taking over and prompting us to focus on negative outcomes— often as a misguided protective mechanism. This can lead to feelings of being overwhelmed.
Conditions like PTSD and trauma arise when experiences leave memories unresolved. During a traumatic event, your mind may become overwhelmed, preventing the memory from being properly filed away in your mental library.
Our eye movement therapy doesn’t erase or alter memories; instead, it helps detach the overwhelming emotions associated with them, allowing these memories to be stored like any other. Once the memory is safely and appropriately processed, we shift our focus to envisioning your desired future. We explore questions like, “How would you like your future to look now that we’ve addressed unresolved memories?”
We recognize that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution. ROOT therapy combines a variety of scientifically validated techniques, including EMDR, CBT, NLP, solution-focused brief therapy, and clinical hypnotherapy. Our primary goal is to help you move forward, free from the emotional burdens holding you back
Presentations I can treat successfully are

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event.
These events can be either huge catastrophic incidents or a series of small traumas that have built Symptoms include intrusive memories, flashbacks, nightmares, emotional numbness, heightened anxiety, and avoidance of reminders of the trauma. It can significantly impact a person’s daily life and relationships. Make contact today to become a survivor of PTSD and no longer a victim.

Anger is a symptom of something, not a cause. Angry people are just trying the most basic form of defending themselves. Being Angry is a primitive reflection of strength but it needs understanding and addressing to prevent it from causing harm to oneself and others.
Anger issues are always treatable. Contact us and lets together sort out your anger issues.

These are horrible little blighters, they are things that should not but do affect our everyday lives. As a sufferer of a fear of phobia, you know in your logical mind that your fear is largely unfounded and yet the urge to succumb to your phobia or fear is often stronger than your logical mind. This is your primitive mind trying to protect you.
Here at ROOT we will find out where that fear or phobia comes from(even if it is not currently obvious to you) and work to lessen it down to a healthy respect and awareness rather than a fear.

We all suffer loss; this is part of being human, but it is never pleasant or easy, and it is part of a natural cycle of grief but sometimes, the raw feelings and emotional upset remain overwhelming for such a long period that we feel unable to respectfully move forward. We will help you to understand why and how this is happening and gently move you respectfully forward.

OCD’s can be particularly horrible, I see clients all the time that are exhausted from having to carry out their rituals, frustrated by the fact that their rituals and compulsions keep expanding, Nobody is born with OCD, OCD’s are developed by the mind as something called a maladaptive protection. We can work on the root of these issues and relieve the anxiety that has led to the OCD.

Depression is a common but serious mental health condition it leaves a client cloaked in sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest of pleasure in activities once enjoyed. It affects how we think, feel and behave. Making decisions becomes difficult, fatigue can be a constant feeling, and sleep patterns often change.Together we can explore where this depression comes from and then rebuild you back into balance again.

Addiction is a chronic, complex condition characterised by the compulsive use of substances or engagement in behaviours despite harmful consequences. It involves physical and psychological dependence, often accompanied by an inability to control usage and intense cravings. Addiction affects brain function, altering reward, motivation, and memory systems. Addiction is a symptom, not a cause if you go to a hospital with a broken leg having jumped out of a tree. The broken leg is the symptom of the cause, which is you have jumped out of a tree.
Addictive people are often in search of a dopamine high or self medicating as a way of avoidance. Addictions can be alleviated and cured

Self-esteem is the foundation of confidence. When you have low self-esteem, you are more likely to feel insecure and doubtful about your abilities, leading to a lack of confidence. Both can result in hesitancy to take risks, fear of failure, or avoiding challenges altogether. This can limit growth, opportunities, and happiness in both your personal relationships and professional life.

Sleep is a major foundation stone of who we are. Put simply, we need sleep to survive; it heals our bodies and our minds. There may well be purely medical reasons such as sleep apnea or narcolepsy in which you should seek medical support, but most sleep issues come from either stress, anxiety or depression, and these are all treatable, which lead to better, calmer, more fulfilling sleep.

Stress is an inevitable part of life, but learning to manage it effectively is key to maintaining health and well-being. Stress leads to anxiety, it leads to depression, it leads to lack of sleep, it can lead to IBS. With life can come certain pressures but we need to be able to manage those pressures in a healthy way.

Out of all my clients, it is the victims of panic attacks that I feel for the most. Panic attacks are nasty, and many GPs and other therapists do not like dealing with clients with panic attacks. Many of my most satisfying outcomes have been with clients who suffer from panic attacks. Get in contact and lets get this sorted for you.

Nobody ever should have to suffer domestic abuse but it is a sad fact that many people do go through this vile way of having to live. If you have been abused you deserve better and the opportunity to try and make sense of things and move forward. If you are the abuser we need to understand where this abuse comes from and give you the skills to be able not only just to control your issues but not longer feel the need to be abusive.

Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation where one person makes another person doubt their perception, memory, or reality. The goal of gaslighting is to confuse or destabilise the victim, causing them to question their judgment and potentially leading them to feel insecure, powerless, or dependent on the manipulator. It is often a tactic used in abusive relationships or situations to gain control over the victim. Whether you are the perpetrator or the victim of gaslighting, we can help
Although I can treat Stopping smoking and weight loss, there are other therapists better placed to deal with those things, so I prefer to focus on the above.

"Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength"
We all experience moments when we lose our mojo, feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and negative thoughts. It can be challenging to see a way out. That’s where ROOT therapy comes in—our goal is to help you rediscover yourself for your own sake and your loved ones.
Whilst Eye Movement Therapy(EMDR) is renowned for treating PTSD, it has evolved to effectively address anxiety, depression, phobias, and OCD. Once we identify the root of your challenges—much like pulling weeds from a garden—we can start working on your recovery.
Many clients arrive feeling mentally "off balance" but unsure of the underlying issue. They might express symptoms like, “I don’t feel happy anymore,” “I struggle to socialise,” or “I can’t find my motivation.” These are symptoms of the problem, not the problem itself.

TAKE THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS A BALANCED & FULFILLING LIFE.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
The number of sessions required can vary based on the complexity of your individual situation. However, many clients experience a significant difference after just the first session. Unlike some traditional therapies, ROOT therapy is designed to be more structured. In most cases, around six sessions are typically sufficient, though some clients may need more or fewer sessions depending on their unique needs. We recommend weekly attendance for optimal results.
